A.P.E.X. TECHNOLOGY - COMPARISON
> The Aqueous Petroleum Effluent eXtraction Technology
Other remediation technologies have significant limitations or higher costs. Here is a brief discussion on the advantages of the A.P.E.X. over a few common technologies.
> Bioremediation versus the A.P.E.X.
Limitations on Types of Waste
Bioremediation does not work on all petroleum waste streams. Wastes containing a high percentage of oil may not react effectively to bioremediation techniques. The A.P.E.X. Technology processes the
toughest of the tough in Petroleum wastes including weathered wastes containing heavy oil residues.
Time
Bioremediation takes time, continued and careful monitoring and labour. Often remediation of a site can take decades before a site is considered completed. The A.P.E.X. Technology processes the waste at a
rate of up to 40 tons an hour using a portable facility and once processed the resulting solids meet safe disposal standards.
Temperature
Besides having to provide optimal combinations of nutrients, bioremediation requires specific temperature range and moisture content to perform correctly and effectively. The A.P.E.X. facility is operating in all
types of weather from Arctic to Tropical to Desert climates.
> Thermal Desorbers versus the A.P.E.X.
Thermal desorbers are not only large and cumbersome they have high energy demands and slow down with increase in oil content of the sludge. The A.P.E.X. Technology is a mobile facility
that is easily moved from location to location and recovers oil from the waste. Oil amounts do not slow the facilities production rate.
> Other Chemical Technologies versus the A.P.E.X. Technology
Other technologies require three or more stages to reach the same degree of separation that the A.P.E.X. Technology reaches in a single stage, thus making it the best performing petroleum waste treatment
technology currently available. Some of these other technologies use solvents to separate the wastes. These same solvents often leave a residue on the solid particles and require additional recovery stage to prevent costly losses.
